  • Took over for al-Nashiri as al-Qaeda's Persian Gulf operations chief after his capture.
  • He trained in al-Qaeda's camps in Afghanistan in 1999 and served as Osama bin Laden's bodyguard. He traveled widely to southeast Asia and the Arabian Peninsula.
  • He was listed on Saudi Arabia's most-wanted terrorist suspects list published Dec. 6, 2003.
  • He was killed with an associate after they opened fire on a Saudi checkpoint in Riyadh.1,2
