History - Main Motor Control (GAC)

The main motor control (GAC) of the Red Army during its existence has undergone substantial changes in the name and affiliation. It was formed pursuant to the Decree of November 24, 1942 by the order number M2537 from January 15, 1943 for the composition of staff, management of supply and provision of machines, maintenance and management departments: technical, human and financial.

Chief of automotive control was appointed Major General (later Colonel General) Vasily Evlampievich Belokoskov (January 1943 - October 1943). Next, from October 1943 to 1946 GAU SC was headed by Lieutenant-General Ivan Tjagunov. In January 1946, Main automotive control of the Red Army (GAU CA) transformed into Auto control of the Armed Forces of the USSR with the subordination of the chief of the rear of aircraft. Lieutenant General Ivan Tjagunov led the new structure after reorganization. From May 1947 to October 1949 it was headed by Lieutenant General Alexander Andreyevich Sosenkova.

In 1949, on the basis of Automobile and Tractor Management Sun Management Chief Artillery Directorate formed main autotractor Management (GAVTU) Armed Forces subordinate to the Deputy Minister of Defence. Thus, there was an association of automobile and tractor services into a single autotractor service. GAVTU from October 1949 to January 1951 led by Colonel-General Ivan Z. Susaykov. In 1951 he was replaced in this position by Major General Alexander I. Datsyuk, who commanded GAVTU to May 1952

He was replaced by Colonel General Ivan Terent'evich Korovnikov, who had for eleven years (from May 1952 and before August 1963), while remaining chief of Glaucus, carried out the reorganization of automotive service in the Armed Forces of the country. In 1953, the main management autotractor (GAVTU) was transformed into the Automobile and Tractor Management (AVTU) USSR Ministry of Defense.

In 1961, the Automobile and Tractor Management (AVTU) USSR Ministry of Defense reformed in Central autotractor Management (Tsavta) USSR Ministry of Defense. Colonel General Ivan Terent'evich Korovnikov was chief and AVTU and Tsavta (from 1961 to August 1963). From August 1963 to September 1970 Tsavta headed by Colonel-General Alex Stepanovich Burdeinyi.

From September 1970 to 1982. Tsavta Defense was commanded by Colonel-General engineering troops Alexander T. Smirnov, who was replaced by Colonel General Ivan Balabai. In December 1982, Central autotractor Management (Tsavta) USSR Ministry of Defense was renamed the main motor control (GLAVTU) USSR Ministry of Defense. Head of the new management was Colonel General Ivan Balabai, who directed it from 1982 to September 1989.

In September, 1989. Col. Gen. Popov Vasiliy Fedorovich became chief of GLAVTU and held this position until September1991. On November 20, 1996 Colonel General Sergey Maiev was appointed Chief GABTU. He combined the two positions, as chief operating armament and military equipment the Armed Forces - Chief of the Russian Defense Ministry GABTU (up to 2004).
