Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant - Kupol

Izhevskiy Elektromekhanicheskiy Zavod "Kupol" (IEMZ "Kupol") is one of the enterprises of the Antey Industrial Concern joint stock company. The development and design of "OSA" and "TOR-M1" ADM systems was done by Scientific Research Electro-mechanical Institute (Moscow), headed by general constructor, academician V. P. Efremov "IEMZ" and Scientific Research Electro-mechanical Institute are the part of Industrial company "Concern "Antey". With active interaction with State Enterprise "Rosvooruzhenie" and Industrial company "Concern "Antey" the enterprise successfully exports the "OSA" and "TOR-M1" ADM systems.

One of the principal aims of our plant's activities always was, and still remains, the establishment of high-accuracy military equipment providing reliable defense of our country. During 40 years the plant became a complex industrial manufacturer. Nowadays "Izhevskiy Elektromekhanicheskiy Zavod" is one of the largest manufacturers for the Russia defense complex, its high-quality goods are well known in the world market. The secret of its success is the orientation towards market requirements, mastering the latest technologies, using the equipment of high precision, trained specialists. Thanks to the above mentioned factors, the enterprise occupies the achieved positions and it's ready to meet new challenges of today's developing market.

The tradition of developing unique weapons is continued by the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant. On June 20, 1997 it turned 40. It is a young but promising enterprise. The plant began its activity by producing the onboard equipment for the air-to-air missile and a number of small-size telemetering systems to measure parameters of flying vehicles.

On the 20th of June 1957, the Decree on the establishment of the "Izhevsk Radio Engineering Plant" manufacturing radio control equipment was issued. In 1958 the first stage of the construction was completed. The first target on manufacturing K-5E compartments was received. The plant was named as the "Izhevskiy Electromekhanicheskiy Zavod".

In 1961 the plant was entrusted with the production of counting and solving devices for the radar and launching system of the first army air defense missile system "KRUG", the radio control unit for 3M8 missile of the same system and radio electronic equipment for the target detection and missile guidance station "KUB". In the early 1960s the plant was instructed to manufacture computers for radars and launchers of the first Krug field air defense missile system and a radio control unit for the 3M8 missile of the same system, electronic equipment for the guidance and acquisition radar of the Kub air defense missile system.

The plant accepted not only honor and glory but also responsibility and troubles when, in 1966, it became a leading enterprise for the manufacture of the combat vehicle for the Osa field air defense missile system. The Osa system is designed for air defense of fighting and marching army formations as well as ground facilities. The Osa air defense missile system was manufactured until 1988. During this time it was modernized several times to improve its performance and exported to more than 20 countries. During the past decade the plant has successfully repaired and reconditioned these vehicles. Hundreds of them, badly worn in hot spots of the planet, are annually returned back to service by the repair divisions of the enterprise.

In 1979 the Moscow-based Electromechanical Research Institute developed a new Tor-M1 air defense missile system, the world's first fully automated short range air defense asset. The system was intended to accomplish the same missions as the Osa system and Tor-M1 allow engagement of PGW targets with a small reflection surface, with signals processed digitally.

The missile vertical launch, the unigue phased antenna array, large combat eguipment, automation of operation modes, capability to guide two missiles and row targets simultaneously, ability to fight against high-precision weapon - all these features make the "TOR-M1 " ADM system an absolute leader In the world among similar short-range ADM systems.

Having become a leading enterprise in manufacture of air defense missile systems, the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant mastered the production of active tank protection devices. The Antey Industrial Concern joint stock company is the leader in manufacturing of conditionnig and water purification products. In the course of intensification of civil indusrty, at the plant there were planned the following directions: the production of highly pure substances on the basis of laser methods, the production of water treatment and preparation equipment, production of medical devices, infusion solutions manufacturing and consumer goods production.
