| (1) Motto. "We will fight steadfastly, but never retret" (2) Establishment, Introduction of Kalibaksh Battalion (E). Initially, Shree Kalibaksh Battalion was established as a company in September 1762 and is one of the 5 companies established by King Prithivi Narayan Shah. It was provided with the weapons that were captured after conquering Sindhulikot. The battalion is recognized as the second senior most battalion of the Nepalese Army though it was established on the same day as Shree Shreenath Battalion; the reason being Shree Shreenath Battalion's affinity with Gorakhnath and Shree Kalibaksh Battalion with Bhagwati (Goddess). Since its existence as a company, it has justified its worth by getting actively involved in various battles and the unification campaign of Nepal (Please refer to "Contribution in different wars" for more details). It also had to witness several changes and transformation throughout its existence; the most notable being the disbandment of the company during the reorganization of the then Royal Nepalese Army in 1952 A.D., only to witness its establishment a year later in 1953 A.D. as Recruit Training Centre at Bhaktapur. In 1966 A.D., after serving for just over a decade the Recruit Training Centre was renamed Kalibaksh, which was transformed into an infantry battalion in 1981 A.D. In 1991 A.D., it was once again transformed, but this time it was to become the second Combat Engineer battalion of the then Royal Nepalese Army. The primary responsibility of this battalion is to undertake various construction and demolition tasks under combat conditions in order to facilitate movement and support of friendly forces while impeding that of the enemy. This battalion consists of combat engineers who are capable of undertaking tasks like field fortification, bunker construction, constructing and breaching trenches, road and bridge construction or demolition, laying or breaching minefields and other physical works in the battlefield. Being a Combat Engineer battalion, the individuals of this battalion are also trained as infantrymen and have a secondary role fighting as infantry. Currently this battalion has been undertaking the role of Division Support Element. It provides support to the Division and it's under command by providing skilled tradesmen (Electrician, Plumber, Painter, Bricklayer, Welder, Carpenter, Surveyor, Draughtsman and Plant Operator) and plays an important role in producing them. Besides, the battalion has also deployed trained and skilled Bomb Disposal Squad at several places within the Division's Area of Responsibility for safe disposal of the explosive ordnance to minimize the loss of life and property in order to maintain peace and security.
