IJN Yugumo Class Destroyers
The design of the Yugumo class destroyers was a modified version of the Kagero class with improvements to the elevation of its batteries and to the bridge. Twelve ships were ordered in 1939 and an additional 16 in 1941, though only half of the latter number were built. Beginning in 1940, the destroyers were laid down over a two year period. All were completed by May 1944, the earliest however being ready by September of 1941. As the war progressed, the ships were equipped with radar and an increasing number of anti-aircraft gusn. None of the twenty ships of the Yugumo class survived the war.
