Ri Yong Ho

Ri Yong Ho (born 5 October 1942) is a North Korean military officer, and member of the central presidium of the Workers' Party of Korea since September 2010. Vice Marshal Ri Yong Ho is the Chief of the (MPAF) General Staff and Vice Chairman of thethe party's Central Military Commission alongside Kim Jong Un. VMAR Ri was appointed GSD Chief, replacing General Kim Kyok Shik in February 2009 in a personnel shuffle in the Ministry of People's Armed Forces.

Ri Yong Ho, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the WPK, was born in Thongchon County, Kangwon Province on October 5, Juche 31 (1942), he joined the Korean People's Army in August Juche 48 (1959). After graduation from Kim Il Sung Military University he worked as chief of staff of a division, director of the operations department of an army corps, head of a training center, vice-director of the operations department of the General Staff, its deputy chief and head of a training center of the KPA. He has worked as chief of the General Staff of the KPA since February of Juche 98 (2009).

On 20 April 2010 Ri Yong Ho, chief of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army, Tuesday met and had a friendly talk with the delegation of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces headed by Alvaro Lopez Miera, vice-minister of Revolutionary Armed Forces and chief of the General Staff. Present on the occasion were Pak Jae Gyong, vice-minister of the People's Armed Forces, general officers and other officers of the KPA and Ambassador Jose Manuel Galego Montano and Military Attache Leonardo Perez Mesa of the Cuban embassy. On 12 August 2010 Ri Yong Ho, chief of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army, met and had a talk with the Chinese public security delegation headed by Liu Jing, executive vice-minister of Public Security.

On 27 September 2010 Ri Yong Ho was awarded the military rank of Vice Marshal of the Korean People's Army, according to Decision No. 07 of the DPRK National Defence Commission issued on Monday. On 06 October 2010 General Secretary Kim Jong Il together with senior officials of the party, state and army enjoyed the "October concert" given by the Unhasu Orchestra on the occasion of the 65th birthday of the WPK. Among the audience were Kim Yong Nam, Choe Yong Rim and Ri Yong Ho, members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, and Kim Jong Un, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission of the WPK.

VMAR Ri is not to be confused with Ri Yong Ho, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2010, was born in 1954.
