YC - Open Lighter
The YC Open Lighter, Non Self-Propelled is a steel barge designed to transport cargo in rivers, harbors or other protected waters. The craft is divided into watertight compartments. Access to these compartments is through manholes.

PRINCIPAL MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT
The anchor is a 300 pound LWT. The anchor handling is a portable hand operated davit with falls; hand operated double gypsy windlass: 35 fathoms 1/2 inch, 6 x 37 wire rope.
DESIGN FEATURES
Hull - Hull is designed on a transverse system of framing, with frames spaced two feet apart. The hull is divided into six watertight buoyancy tanks by five transverse bulkheads. Plating size follows: bottom 1/4", deck - 5/16", turn of the bilge 5/16", side - 1/4", bulkheads - 3/16". Rake ends, bow and stern, are reinforced to permit craft to be towed at sea. Acccess to each tank is by manholes located on main deck (two manholes per tank).
Fenders - Two wood fenders (upper and lower) extend along each side of barge; one wood fender extends along bow and stern. Ten portable rope fenders are also provided.
Mooring Line - Consists of two six inch circumference manila lines, each ten fathoms long.
BULWARK
Steel bulwark four feet high is erected on main deck and encompasses an area 90 feet x 26 feet. Bulwark has two 8 ft openings each side and one 11 ft opening each end. Portable wood flashboards are available to close openings. Drain holes are cut at each of four corners of bulwark.
