AN/ALQ-239 Digital Electronic Warfare System [DEWS]

In 2008, the system was selected by Boeing to be implemented on the F-15, becoming the first new U.S.-developed electronic warfare system to be installed on the platform in several decades. Founded on BAE Systems legacy in electronic warfare, DEWS utilizes cutting-edge technology to support and protect the F-15, while also providing advanced features to combat the threats of tomorrow.

A proven, low cost, low risk solution that leverages fifth-generation technology to provide advanced capabilities for todays aircraft, while offering room for growth in the future. On the backbone of more than 60 years of electronic warfare experience, BAE Systems remains unsurpassed in the field across the entire electromagnetic spectrum, producing over 10,000 tactical electronic warfare systems while also flying systems on more than a dozen platforms.

Drawing on this extensive expertise, BAE Systems has continued to evolve its capabilities in order to counter emerging threats, protecting the warfighter by maximizing mission effectiveness and survivability. The development of the Digital Electronic Warfare System (DEWS) was the result of these efforts, as BAE Systems was able to create one of the most advanced defense aviation capabilities on the market.

This state-of-the-art system protects new and legacy aircraft by providing:

  • fully integrated radar warning
  • geo-location
  • situational awareness
  • offensive targeting support
  • self-protection to improve survivability and enhance mission capability

An all-digital system, DEWS stands alone in its ability to provide advanced electronic countermeasures, enabling deeper penetration against modern integrated air defense systems. Designed to meet future warfare needs, it performs more accurate measurements than current systems, allowing it to constantly listen across an entire frequency band and provide the aircrew with the latest situational awareness.

DEWS provides advanced capabilities along with significantly improved reliability, maintainability and operational availability into one integrated system for the F-15. The system provides an NDI (Non-Development Item) solution which lowers risk for the F-15 user. Utilizing its digital radio frequency memory jamming as well as an integrated countermeasures dispenser, DEWS is able to offer rapid response capabilities to the aircraft. The system provides simultaneous jamming with minimal interference to the aircrafts radar and warning receiver, allowing DEWS to operate in the battlefield of today and tomorrow.
