The name of this airport was changed in 1998 from Fort Leonard Wood, Forney Army Airfield to Waynesville Regional Airport at Forney Field. The Forney Field mission is to provide aviation support to the U.S. Army's Maneuver Support Center and the Fort Leonard Wood community. The goal is to offer superlative aviation services to all transient military aircraft through Air Traffic Control (ATC), national airspace system navigational aids, POL (aircraft fueling) and flight operations. Through ATC and flight operation branches Forney Field offers emergency response coordination for aircraft in distress. Waynesville Regional Airport at Forney Field meets all FAA Part 139 Regulations for Trans World Express (TWE) commercial airlines and manages a joint use agreement with the City of Waynesville, MO.
Waynesville's airport is located at Forney Field on Fort Leonard Wood, which is served by Trans World Express (TWA). The Waynesville/St. Robert area is situated in the heart of Pulaski County, in south central Missouri. Interstate 44 runs right through Waynesville and St. Robert, and is parallel to Historic Route 66. Interstate 44 runs from Tulsa to St. Louis. The airport just on the side of I-44 is Forney AAF which serves Ft. Leonard Wood.
