After the inactivation of the 49th Armored Division in 2004, the 2-112 Armor became part of the 56th Brigade Combat Team under command of the 36th Infantry Division.

Dona Ana range hosted a tank tactical live-fire exercise conducted by a battalion from the Texas Guard in July 2001. Several M1A1 Abrams main battle tanks from 2nd Battalion 112th Armor from Fort Worth, Texas, participated in the exercises, known also as tank tables.
