173rd Special Troops Battalion

The 173rd Special Troops Battalion was officially activated at Warner Barracks in Bamberg, Germany on 8 June 2006 as part of the 173d Airborne Brigade's transition to the US Army's new modular force structure. The unit was organized to include an engineering company, a military intelligence company, and a signals company. As of June 2006, many members of the STB were drawn from the 82nd Engineer Battalion, which was deactivated 30 March 2006.

In 2007 the 173rd Special Troops Battalion was deployed to Afghanistan with other elements of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, as part of the United States contribution to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), where it continued to serve into 2008.
