No 7010 (VR) Photographic Interpretation Squadron RAuxAF
The Sqn's role is to provide operational Photographic Interpretational (PI) to support the RAF.
No 7010 Flt was formed in Apr 1953. The Flight's role was to exploit strategic imagery at the joint Air Reconnaissance Intelligence Centre (JARIC), then at RAF Nuneham Park in Oxfordshire.
In 1965, it became the first reserve unit to augment RAF Germany during Exercise ROYAL FLUSH. In Aug 1982, Her Majesty The Queen approved the issue of a crest to the flight. In allusion to the flight's role, the emblem of a human eye is portrayed with a wing embellishment and set in front of a roundel. The motto VOCATI VENIEMUS may be freely translated as 'when summoned we shall be there'. No 7010 Flt became No 7010 (VR) Sqn on 5 April 1997, when the RAFVR was amalgamated with the RAuxAF.
Over the years, the balance of emphasis has shifted from provision of Strategic Intelligence towards support to tactical reconnaissance squadrons. That said, No 7010 Sqn continues to provide Strategic Intelligence support to JARIC (now at RAF Brampton), while supporting the tactical operations of Tornado GR1 A and Jaguar GRI aircraft. In addition, the Sqn supports both HQ Allied Rapid Reactions Corps (ARRC) and HQ AIRCENT in Germany.
