Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong summoned Japanese Ambassador to China Kenji Kanasugi on Thursday, making serious démarches over erroneous remarks of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding China.

Sun said that Takaichi openly made blatant and provocative remarks regarding the Taiwan region, even implying the possibility of armed intervention in the Taiwan Straits. The nature and impact of these remarks are extremely egregious. Despite China's serious démarches and protests, the Japanese side still refused to change course and retrack the erroneous remarks. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this, and lodges solemn representations and strong protests with Japan, Sun said.

Sun pointed out that Takaichi's remarks related to the Taiwan region are gravely wrong and extremely dangerous. They constitute a flagrant interference in China's internal affairs, seriously violate international law and the basic norms governing international relations, severely undermine the post-war international order, grossly violate the one-China principle and the guiding principles set forth in the four China-Japan political documents, sabotage the political foundation of China-Japan relations, and deeply hurt the feelings of the Chinese people. The 1.4 billion Chinese people will by no means tolerate such remarks, Sun emphasized.

The Taiwan question lies at the very core of China's core interests and is a red line and bottom line that must not be crossed. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's sacred territory, and Taiwan-related matters are purely China's internal affairs, Sun stressed, adding that how to resolve the Taiwan question and realize national reunification is a matter for the Chinese people to decide and brooks no interference by any external force.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, and is also the 80th anniversary of the restoration of Taiwan, Sun noted.

Eighty years ago, the courageous Chinese people fought a 14-year bloody war to defeat the Japanese aggressors. Eighty years later, anyone who dares to interfere in China's great cause of reunification in any form will definitely meet a firm response from China, Sun said.

China once again urges Japan to deeply reflect on its historical responsibilities, immediately correct its wrong doing, retract the egregious remarks, and stop going further down the wrong path. Otherwise, all consequences must be borne by the Japanese side, Sun said.
