TAIWAN'S NATIONALISM ESTABLISHED: VICE PRESIDENT LU
Taipei, April 30 (CNA) Vice President Annette Lu said Friday that the results of the March 20 presidential election represented evidence that Taiwan's nationalism has been established.
Receiving a visiting Japanese delegation headed by Kouki Kobayashi, a member of the House of Representatives, at her office, Lu said that the ticket formed by President Chen Shui-bian and herself obtained 6.47 million votes, or more than 50 percent of the total in the March 20 presidential election, an increase of nearly 1.5 million votes over the number they received four years ago in the 2000 election.
The election results served as a manifesto of national identity by Taiwan residents through casting their votes, because both Chen and herself insist in defending the status quo of Taiwan's sovereignty.
The emergence of nationalism is very important in Taiwan's history, she stressed.
