FOREIGN MINISTER URGES FOREIGN FRIENDS
Kaohsiung, March 4 (CNA) Foreign Affairs Minister Eugene Chien urged foreign friends Friday to support the Republic of China's campaign against mainland China's missile threat and its pursuit of peace in the Taiwan Strait.
Chien made the appeal in a speech delivered at a luncheon in honor of foreign participants at the ongoing Liberal International Asian Conference, which opened a day earlier in the southern port city of Kaohsiung and will run through Saturday.
Chien told his foreign guests that nearly 2 million Taiwan people joined a huge "hand-in-hand" rally last Saturday to form a 500-kilometer human chain that stretched the length of Taiwan to protest against the hundreds of missiles Beijing has aimed at Taiwan and show their commitment to protecting their homeland with peace. "We earnestly hope that our foreign friends will support our campaign against the missile threat and our desire for peace, " Chien said.
