TAIWAN PREPARED TO PREVENT BEIJING MEDDLING IN ELECTION: CABINET AIDE
Taipei, Feb. 12 (CNA) Taiwan is fully prepared to prevent all possible meddling from Beijing aimed at rigging Taiwan's first referendum, to be held on the same day as the presidential election slated for March 20, Executive Yuan spokesman Lin Chia-lung said Thursday.
According to the Cabinet spokesman, all relevant government authorities will heighten their alert levels to fend off any type of irregularities involved in the historic referendum, particularly those schemed up by the Chinese communists.
Lin gave his assurances that national security, police and intelligence authorities have been on high alert in the face of rampant rumors that the Beijing regime is very likely to attempt to influence the coming referendum and presidential race.
He called on the public to stay calm and urged the opposition parties to refrain from smearing the referendum. Accusations such as that the referendum will create riots only reflects their fear and ignorance, he claimed.
