IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, April 11, IRNA -- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif has called for establishment of an international fact-finding committee to investigate the Khan Sheikhoun chemical attack.

Zarif raised the call in separate phone calls with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and his counterparts from Italy Paolo Gentiloni Silveri, Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah and Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

In the phone calls the sides discussed regional issues and latest developments in Syria.

Zarif had also on Monday held separate telephone conversations with the EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as well as his Omani, Algerian and Syrian counterparts.

In the telephone talks, Zarif and the officials reviewed latest developments in the region as well as those in Syria.

It was the first US direct air raid on Syrian fortifications on Friday as a result of which some 59 missiles were fired on Shayrat air base in Homs of Syria.

The missile attacks were without obtaining any license from the UN Security Council and the US Congress.

Syrian government has denied any use of chemical weapons.
