Press release on the closing of Poland's General Consulate in Irkutsk

On November 27, the Polish Ambassador to the Russian Federation was summoned to the Foreign Ministry, where he was served with a note notifying his country that the Russian side had decided to revoke its agreement, as of December 30, 2025, to the functioning of Poland's General Consulate in Irkutsk as a response to the revocation by the Polish authorities, as of December 23, 2025, of the agreement to the functioning of the General Consulate of Russia in Gdansk.

Using an absurd pretext to curtail the Russian consular presence in Poland is an openly hostile and ungrounded step by the Polish leadership, in response to which the Russian Federation will close the last of the previously existing Polish consular institutions in its territory.

The Russian side once again reminds those planning to make unfriendly assaults on our country for time-serving political reasons that the Russian Federation will not leave these actions without a fitting and painful retaliation.
