On November 27, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin took part in a joint meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Council of Ministers of Defence, and Committee of Secretaries of the Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, which was held in Bishkek under the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The officials held a constructive and earnest exchange of views on current international and regional issues. They discussed in detail the situation in the CSTO responsibility zone and adjacent regions and put an emphasis on their intention to continue stepping up their joint efforts to strengthen the CSTO potential.

They considered a number of documents intended for subsequent approval by the CSTO Collective Security Council, including the final Declaration and Statement on Strengthening Cooperation in the Fight against Illicit Drug Trafficking, as well as decisions on upgrading the collective security system. They also approved the candidacy of Kyrgyzstan's Taalatbek Masadykov nominated for the CSTO's next Secretary General and due to be presented to the CSTO leaders.

Given that the Russian Federation takes over as the CSTO Chairman on January 1, 2026, Alexander Pankin advised participants in the meeting on the main elements of Russian priorities in this position.

The next meeting of the CSTO Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs will take place in Kazan in June 2026.
