Skrunda Radar Building Destroyed; Gailis Comments

The Skrunda radar building was blown up at 0943 [0643 GMT] today. Music specially composed for the occasion by Zigmars Liepins was played, fireworks were ignited, and this was followed by the Skrunda radar building being destroyed by an explosion. After the event, Prime Minister Maris Gailis said that the long-awaited moment has come -- what has been called the Skrunda monster has collapsed. It should be added that the destruction of the radar building succeeded only after a second attempt. This has been due to considerations of safety, because a helicopter was flying too close to the radar building.
