Yeltsin Controls Russian Nuclear Arsenal
Moscow INTERFAX, 14 July 1995[FBIS Transcribed Text] Moscow, July 14 (INTERFAX) -- Despite his illness Russian President Boris Yeltsin fully controls the country's nuclear arsenal, presidential spokesman Sergey Medvedev told INTERFAX in an interview today. He said the so-called "nuclear button" or the special communication system was following the president everywhere. According to Medvedev, Yeltsin now has the "nuclear button" in the Central Clinical Hospital. Medvedev said Yeltsin was fully aware of the events in the world and the military situation and was maintaining permanent contacts with the Russian defense minister and the country's top generals.
