Mt. Geumgang Tour Fee to Be Lowered

2003-08-19

The tour fee to Mt. Geumgang in North Korea will be significantly lowered from next month, said Hyundai Asan on Monday (Aug. 18).

“Only two-night-three-day tour packages will be available when we resume the Mt. Geumgang tourism project on Sept. 1, and the tour packages using overland marine routes will be operated every other day,” said Hyundai Asan.

“We fixed the new tour package price for tourists lodging at the Hotel Haegeumgang at 350,000 won, those on the Seolbongho cruise at 300,000 won and accommodation at Geumgang village and Oncheon village at 270,000 won,” it said.

The Mt. Geumgang tourist project operator said the same fee will be applied for tourists regardless of which form of transportation they use for getting to the scenic mountain in the North.

The tour fee, when staying at the Hotel Haegeumgang, is 190,000 won cheaper in comparison to the normal fees of the cruise tour to the North and even 50,000 won lower than the special discount prices Hyundai Asan is providing.

The departure date of both the overland and seaway tour to Mt. Geumgang will be the same and tourists can choose either form of transport when traveling to the mountain resort, but they only can use the land route when returning to the South,” the company said.

It added that tour schedules are available on alternate days at the moment, but when the company secures more accommodation facilities in the Mt. Geumgang resort, it plans to operate the tour everyday throughout the year.

A tour course where visitors can travel to Mt. Geumgang through the land route and return home via the cruise route will also be provided in the near future, it added.

Tourists using the land route leaves for Mt. Geumgang at the Tongil Observatory Tower in Goseong-gun, Gangwon Province, at 4:30 p.m. and those taking the cruise will depart for the North at Sokcho Port in Gangwon Province at 2:30 p.m.
