Pyongyang, May 18 (KCNA) -- The people's action for the revision of the South Korea-U.S. "Status Of Forces Agreement", the All-People Measure Committee for the Closure of U.S. Bombing Range in Maehyang-ri, the Solidarity for the Return of U.S. Military Bases, young friends in the era of reunification and the headquarters of the movement for the return of U.S. military base in Ryongsan reportedly held the 44th anti-U.S. solidarity rally in Kwanghwamun of Seoul on May 13. The participants honoured the memory of martyr Jo Song Man who plunged to his death from a building, calling for independence against the U.S. 15 years ago and demanded liquidation of the unequal South Korea-U.S alliance.
At the rally speakers branded the move of a U.S. military base to Phyongthaek as a part of the U.S. new strategic principle of preemptive attack and preventive interference, warning that if it is not withdrawn at once, it would cause a serious crisis.
A letter to the U.S. President was made public at the rally.
The letter said that the South Korea-U.S. "mutual defense treaty" is an unequal one that left territorial, military and economic sovereignty lock, stock and barrel to the tender mercy of the U.S. and it is a symbol of subjugation and humiliation. It urged its immediate abolition.
It demanded an overall revision of sofa and requested the U.S. to drop its hostile policy toward the north at an early date and solve the nuclear issue in a peaceful way.
