Pyongyang, March 28 (KCNA) -- Actions against the U.S. Iraqi war were staged by people of different social strata in South Korea on March 24 and 25, according to KBS of South Korea.
Members of at least 40 civic and social organizations staged a demonstration in front of the "National Assembly" building on march 25 to prevent the "National Assembly" from passing the "motion calling for troop dispatch to the war." More than 60 members of civic organizations including the citizens' solidarity for democratic society climbed over the wall of the assembly building to stage a demo opposing the dispatch.
The general student councils of 13 universities in Seoul including Seoul National University in a statement warned that those assemblymen who support the motion would be recorded in history as war criminals.
At least 4,000 citizens participating in a huge candlelight demonstration staged before the assembly building on march 24 strongly urged the U.S. to stop the military attack on Iraq at once and the authorities to cancel their plan to dispatch troops to the Iraqi war.
That day, the South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the Federation of (South) Korean Trade Unions held a press conference. Representatives of civic organizations handed the secretariat of the assembly a signature paper signed by 40,000 people in protest against the authorities' troop dispatch and visited the building of the Democratic Party (DP) to demand it oppose the motion at the assembly.
The South Korean Catholic Priests' Association for Justice had a peace mass in Kwanghwamun opposing the war and troop dispatch while national assemblywomen from the DP and members of women organizations including the women's society for peace held a press conference.
More than 400 members of the joint action for peace against war, the All-People Measure Committee for Sin Hyo Sun and Sim Mi Son, Schoolgirls Killed by a U.S. armored car, and other civic and social organizations went on a sit-in strike from the night of march 24 to the early morning of the next day.
