Militants kidnap over 500 students of army-run college: official

Islamabad, June 2, IRNA -- Suspected militants Monday kidnapped over 500 students of an army-run college in the North Wazirisan tribal region, a government advisor said.
Advisor to the Prime Minister on tribal affairs, Mirza Muhammad Jehadi, said that some students who succeeded to flee have said that suspected Taliban ahve kidnapped the students of Razmak Cadet College.
Taliban have not yet claimed responsibility but they are active in the area.
The security forces have launched a major offensive against the Baitullah Mehsood militants in Waziristan area.
The advisor said the students were heading homes in 33 vehicles when kidnapped at Kajuri area by the unidentified gunmen.
He said that efforts are underway to free the students.
Mirza Muhammad said that he is in touch with the administrative officer of North Waziristan to take measures to release the students.
He said that a group of 17 students have succeeded to escape and an official said that they had arrived in Bannu, a major city near North Waziristan.
