- Iraq: President, PM Praise Shi'a and Kurdish Militias RFE/RL 09 Jun 2005 -- Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Ja'fari yesterday publicly praised Shi'a and Kurdish militias for their contribution in maintaining security in the country. The comments -- made at a congress of the Badr Organization, the armed wing of the Shi'a-led Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) -- come at a time of tension between Sunnis and Iraq's newly empowered Shi'ite majority.

- EU Delegation Makes Surprise Iraq Visit Ahead of Donor Conference VOA 09 Jun 2005 -- British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw says Europe has put behind it the controversy surrounding the Iraq war, and is united in its desire to help the Iraqi government. Mr. Straw was part of a European Union delegation that made a surprise visit to the Iraqi capital ahead of a key donors conference to be held in Brussels later this month.
