- Security Council welcomes Iraqi Governing Council, sets up new UN mission UN News Centre 14 Aug 2003 -- In its first resolution on Iraq since it recognized United States-led occupying forces as the provisional authority, the United Nations Security Council today formally welcomed the US-appointed Governing Council as a key step towards restoring the country's sovereignty and set up a new mission to coordinate UN activities there.
- Iraq: UN Security Council Acknowledges Interim Authority RFE/RL 14 Aug 2003 -- The United Nations Security Council today adopted a resolution that welcomes the establishment of the U.S.-formed interim authority in Iraq, but stopped short of formally recognizing the body.

- Iraq: Agreeing On A Constitution Will Be A Challenge RFE/RL 14 Aug 2003 -- Iraq's Governing Council this week took a first step toward the preparation of a national constitution that will recast the country as a federation. But agreeing on what form the federation will take -- with a strong central government or with major powers devolved to the regions -- is not going to be easy. Though any constitutional convention is still months away, debate is already raging within Iraq over how tightly the country should be bound together.
- IRAQ/FOOD AID VOA 14 Aug 2003 -- The biggest U-N-run food-aid program in history is set to end in November, leaving most Iraqis who benefit from the assistance nervous about the future. But the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq is trying to assure people that help will continue for some time to come.

- Czech Republic: Iraqi Children Get Treatment In Prague RFE/RL 14 Aug 2003 -- Three Iraqi children are undergoing treatment in a Prague hospital after being flown out of the southern city of Al-Basrah by the Czech Defense Ministry. Today, a group of American diplomats and a Czech deputy defense minister went to see how the children are doing.
