| May 14, 2003 Release Number: 03-05-45 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MARINE KILLED IN BUNKER EXPLOSION AL HILLAH, Iraq - A First Marine Expeditionary Force Marine died yesterday afternoon when he was trapped in a munitions bunker that caught fire and exploded. The Marine was loading ammunition from an Iraqi bunker near Al Hillah onto a vehicle when the incident occurred. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. The Marine's name is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification. Unused enemy ammunition and unexploded ordnance is being collected and destroyed by Marine Expeditionary Force units to make the country safer for the people of Iraq. |
