White House Daily Briefing, October 26, 2000
THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary October 26, 2000 PRESS BRIEFING BY JAKE SIEWERT The James S. Brady Press Briefing Room 1:45 P.M. EDT Q: What is the U.S.'s position on Iraq request to pay for oil exports in Euros? Are you opposed to this? MR. SIEWERT: I've seen some stories - I'll have to check on that a little more, but I think any notion that Iraq has anything to gain by cutting back its supply of oil is short-sighted. We've said that Iraq has an interest in sustaining its level of supply for its own purposes and that we should continue to work that program through the -- continue the U.N. program that governs the sales. Q: What about the specific request for it to be paid for in Euros? MR. SIEWERT: I'll check on it. END 2:17 P.M. EDT
