Tehran, Nov 20, IRNA -- An unmanned plane was hit and destroyed by Iran's home-made S200 missile Saturday morning, a top military official announced.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has successfully test-fired the new generation of S-200 defense missile system on the final day of the five-day war games code-named Defenders of Velayat Skies.
Brigadier General Ahmad Miqani told reporters on Saturday that the S200 missile successfully destroyed its object located at 100km distance.
Iran’s current air defense system potentials are completely different from those of the last year, the official said, adding that over 84 percent of the invading unmanned planes were destroyed by various defense systems during the five-day wargames.
According to reports, the domestically-designed S200 air defense system has the same capabilities as the Russian-made S300 system.
During the fifth day of the maneuver, defense units managed to bring down dozens of mock enemies' drones by using various missile and artillery systems.
The military maneuver kicked off on Tuesday with the aim of testing the country's air defense capabilities.
Iranian military officials say the drills convey a message of peace and friendship to the neighboring countries and a fierce warning against enemies.
