Regional security should be provided by regional states: Vahidi

Tehran, Oct 12, IRNA -- Regional security should be provided by regional states, Minister of Defense Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Tuesday noting that presence of foreign forces would not be in favor of regional countries.
The minister made the remark in Baku during a meeting with Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov.
The Iranian minister is in Baku on a one-day visit which would end later on Tuesday.
The brigadier general said expansion of ties and cooperation with Azerbaijan was one of Iran's top priorities.
The Azeri side said, for his turn, that Azerbaijan has always been supporting peace and stability in the region as an independent country.
Mammadyarov stressed that security in the Caspian Sea region should only be provided by its littoral states (Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan).
He referres to the Iranian minister's visit to Baku as a 'turning point' in bilateral ties.
