In its August 26 issue,
the Rodong Shinmun, the official newspaper
of the Korea Workers' Party, printed an
editorial titled "The People Present
Glory to You," in connection with Kim
Jong-Il's visit to Russia from August 20
to August 24. The editorial said that "the
journey of Comrade Kim Jong-Il to the Far
East region of Russia will go down in political
history and the history of the military-first
revolution of the people of Mt. Baeku as
an important exploit." |

On September 1, Kim Jong-Il
enjoyed performances presented by the Art
Squad of the Ryu Kyong Su 105 Tank Division,
known as the "Seoul Guard," at
the 29th Art Festival of Korea People's
Army (KPA) Servicemen. Among those accompanying
Kim were KPA Generals Ri Myong-Su, Hyon
Chol-Hae and Pak Jae-Gyong, and Korea Workers'
Party Secretaries Kim Kuk-Thae, Jong Ha-Chol,
Kim Ki-Nam and Kim Yong-Sun. |

A North Korean Foreign Ministry
spokesperson announced in a KCNA briefing
on August 30 that "Japanese Prime Minister
Koizumi Junichiro will be visiting our country
in mid-September to meet and hold talks
with Comrade Kim Jong-Il, Chairman of the
National Defense Commission of the Democratic
People's Republic of Korea." |

A North Korean Foreign Ministry
spokesperson told a KCNA briefing on August
31 that "the U.S. Under Secretary of
State Bolton venomously slandered us during
his visit to South Korea, saying that we
ought to accept nuclear inspections. These
are outrageous, insane remarks that are
not even worthy of comment." |

the Central Broadcasting Station said that
"Lee Hoe-Chang, the president of the
Grand National Party, has proposed three
key principles and five major tasks for
his peace policy. It is a dirty, ugly trick
to gain popularity by taking advantage of
the peace issue to achieve his ambition
for power." |

Station reported August 30 that "the
second meeting of the Committee for the
Promotion of Inter-Korean Economic Cooperation
was held in Seoul from August 27 to August
30, and resulted in the adoption of an agreement."
