Kim Jong-il met with Hyundai founder Chung Juyoung and his entourage in Wonsan on June 29th, with Kim Yong-soon in attendance, which was follow3ed by a meeting next day with Korean-American journalist Moon Myung-ja.

An editorial for the June 27th issue of the Worker's Daily declared that t`he party, the army, and the people united around Kim Jong-il is the fundamental basis of the party and the revolution.

Standing Chairman of the Supreme People's Assembly Kim Young-nam was in Syria from June 27th to the 30th and expressed his condolences for the death of the late president Hafez al-Assad, along with discussions for friendly relations between North Korea and Syria. Also, spokesperson for North Korea's foreign ministry warned on July 1st that his country would resume generating power with graphite reactors should compensation for delays in the construction of the light-water reactor not proceed smoothly.

The North Korean delegation agreed with their South Korean counterparts to exchange separated families and relatives from Aug. 15th to the 19th, in return for South Korea's pledge to return non-apostate North Korean prisoners in early September, at the Red Cross talks at Kumgangsan Hotel in Mt. Kumgang last week.
