Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)

Weekly on North Korea (2000.3.13 - 2000.3.19)

North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly has recently decreed convention of the Third Plenum of the Tenth Supreme People's Assembly in Pyongyang, to be held this fourth of April.

On the diplomatic front, representatives of the North Korean and Japanese Red Cross organizations have reached an agreement on four issues including permission of Japanese wives of North Koreans to visit Japan and 10 million tons in food aid to North Korea, and North Korea's foreign minister Paek Namsoon left the country for a three-country visit to China, Laos, and Vietnam, in succession.

North Korea stated that there was 'nothing new' in president Kim Daejung's Berlin Declaration, but hinted at the possibility of governmental contact pending `positive changes' as a result of `real and substantive actions' on the part of South Korea.

The central committee of the North Korean propaganda organization the National Democratic Front issued a twenty-point 'Words of Struggle and Announcements on the Current State of Affairs', in connection with South Korea's sixteenth general elections, consisting of slogans to the effect of doing away with old politics and election of what it calls 'progressive forces'.
