- EBOLA VACCINE VOA 21 Nov 2003 -- A registered nurse has made medical history as the first human volunteer to test an experimental Ebola vaccine. Thirty-six-year-old Steve Rucker was injected with a vaccine created by researchers at the Vaccine Research Center at the National Institutes of Health, who say the trial is a major step in developing an effective vaccine against Ebola. The need for such a vaccine is highlighted by the recent outbreak of the disease in the Mbomo region of the Republic of Congo.
- W-H-O / EBOLA VOA 14 Nov 2003 -- The World Health Organization says it has confirmed the presence of the deadly Ebola virus in Mbomo, a remote area in the northern part of the Republic of the Congo. It has sent a team of international experts to the area to investigate the source of the disease.
- CONGO / EBOLA VOA 08 Apr 2003 -- The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies says the Ebola epidemic in the northwestern Republic of Congo shows no signs of slowing. The Red Cross says this epidemic is particularly virulent and that, so far, it has killed 120 of the 135 cases that have been reported.
- CONGO/EBOLA VOA 19 Feb 2003 -- The World Health Organization says laboratory tests confirm an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in a northwestern area of the Republic of Congo. Latest W-H-O figures show 73 cases of Ebola, that have killed 59-people.
- CONGO / EBOLA VOA 06 Feb 2003 -- Officials from the World Health Organization are traveling to northern Congo-Brazzaville to investigate reports of an outbreak of the Ebola virus that has killed more than a dozen people.
