India ’s Dedicated Military
CCI-Sat Reconnaissance Satellite
India is planning it first CCI-Sat [Communications Centric Intelligence Satellite] which is planned for launch in 2014 in a circular 300 mile high orbit. The satellite payload is valued at $25 million for the satellite program that is in its early stages of development. That payload is being built by the Defense Electronic Research Laboratory of India but its design and Research and development testing is being handled by the Indian ISRO space research administration. It is a part of a larger development for military intelligence enhancement utilizing advanced electronic warfare systems capability as applied through satellites to operate as RECSAT and SIGINT platforms for military requirements.
Immediate Top Priority Program
Pushed by Indian immediate national security concerns that it not fall behind in intelligence surveillance advantage operational issues has sparked the Indian governments actions and its military with its security requirements responsibility on these programs. Literally wartime like emergency requirements was applied to get this program moving on the path to launch as quickly as possible.
Other existing and Duel Purpose Military Imaging Spacecraft
This is in addition to their new higher resolution daylight imaging spacecraft launched in 2008 and the existing low and medium resolution remote sensing satellites already being utilized by Indian Intelligence organization for the State and military.
