Chinese Space Agencies

China’s Committee for National Defence has identified space science, technology and industry as important pillars to China's National Defence Program. The majority of China’s civil and military space programmes are directed by the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry but policy formation and day-to-day management are the responsibility of the China National Space Administration (CNSA). CNSA and the more commercially oriented China Aerospace Corporation were created from the Ministry of Aerospace Industry before its dissolution in 1993. In 2000 the China Aerospace Corporation was itself re-structured into two main groupings; China Aerospace Machinery and Electronics Corporation (CAMEC) and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) and these are now the key players in China’s space programme.
