Defense minister: Iran to unveil new space achievements

Tehran, Dec 19, IRNA -- Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Iran is to unveil new space achievements soon.
Talking to reporters after conclusion of Wednesday morning session of the Iranian cabinet, he said the unveiling ceremony will take place on the occasion of Space Technology Day, Feb 2, 2013.
He noted that Iran has gained many remarkable achievements in the space technology area.
Asked about Iran's launching of mass production lines of drones, the minister said that Iranian experts have managed to produce drones with much higher capabilities than ScanEagle.
As for the objectives of the war drills in Hormuz Strait, he said the war games were aimed at enhancing military readiness of the Iranian armed forces. New tactics and equipment are to be tested during the drills, he added.
Vahidi remarked that the drills also were aimed at improving the extent of the forces' preparedness to safeguard the regional security.
Asked to comment on installation of Patriot missiles on Turkey-Syria border, the minister said that the move which entailed presence of foreign forces in the region has not only failed to improve security in the region but also damaged it.
He further rejected claims on missile cooperation between Iran and North Korea and said Tehran has never dispatched any one to North Korea for the purpose.
