Bahaji is one of the few Hamburg cell members still at large in the years after the attacks. He departed Hamburg on Sept. 3, 2001, for Pakistan.
Arrest warrants for him have been issued in Germany and Spain.
The son of a Moroccan immigrant to Germany, he was educated in Morocco and served five months in the German army before receiving a medical dicharge. He lives with Mohamed Atta and Ramzi Binalshibh between November 1998 and July 1999.
He is described as a dull, insecure follower with little personality or knowledge of Islam. The other Hamburg Cell members used his computer for Internet research.
He is married to Nese Bahaji. They were married in 1999.1,2
