![]() | Reliable | Group of Yemeni-American friends from Buffalo, New York, area who received training at an al-Qaeda camp in Afghanistan in early 2001. They were recruited by Derwish. Six were detained (hence the name Lackawanna Six) in September 2002. Despite the publicity given the arrests, they were never accused of participating in a terrorist plot. Derwish was killed in a CIA airstrike in Yemen. Jaber Elbaneh, an associate, was detained in Yemen but escaped in 2006. | |
