Narrative and Notes

	Reliable	Pilot-hijacker of American Airlines Flight 77, bound from Virginia to Los Angeles, which crashed into the Pentagon. Hanjour's background distinguishes him from the other 9-11 plotters; he had been to the United States before and already had flight experience. He was brought into the plot later than the other five key plotters -- pilots Mohamed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi, Ziad Jarrah and veteran al-Qaeda operatives Nawaf al-Hazmi and Khalid al-Mihdhar. He was added after Hazmi and Mihdhar were unable to be trained as pilots, and Ramzi Binalshibh, Tawfiq bin Attash, Abu Bara al-Yemeni were unable to obtain U.S. visas, and Zacarias Moussaoui had training problems of his own.¹
