 | Reliable | Hambali's younger brother, Gunawan was put in charge of Al-Ghuraba, a Pakistan-based JI cell charged with training a new generation of JI operatives. He was captured in Pakistan and deported to Indonesia, where he was convicted of financing the Jakarta Marriott bombing. Gunawan also served as an al-Qaeda facilitator in Karachi and coordinated contacts between the cell and the Taliban. He served as an e-mail conduit between Hambali and a senior al-Qaeda figure. The U.S. government froze his assets on April 13, 2006.1 |
