![]() | Reliable | On Nov. 3, 2002, a CIA-operated Predator drone fired Hellfire missiles at a vehicle carrying Qaed al-Harethi, al-Qaeda's top operative in Yemen. Traveling with him was Kamal Derwish, a U.S. citizen, who was also killed. The U.S. government said it did not know Derwish was in the vehicle. The strike was criticized as an extrajudicial killing of an American who had not been charged with any crime. The Bush administration argued the killing was legal.1 | |
