![]() | Reliable | According to al-Ridi, El Hage asked him to train Nawawi -- Ihab Ali -- in flying al-Qaeda's plane, which had been parked at the Khartoum airport since al-Ridi had brought it there more than a year previous. The plane was in terrible shape, so al-Ridi and Ihab Ali, himself a junior pilot, fixed it up and performed some touch-and-gos. However, as they tried to land, the brakes failed and the plane crashed. Al-Ridi became scared for his life and fled Khartoum, returning to Cairo via Addis Ababa. | |
