| Reliable | In what is considered al-Qaeda's first attack, a militant Islamic Yemeni group, whose leader was on al-Qaeda's ruling council, bombed a hotel used by U.S. Marines transiting to Somalia as part of Operation Restore Hope. No Marines were at the hotel when the bombs went off, but two tourists were killed. Sources differ as to whether the tourists were Austrian or Australian.1 | |
