![]() | Reliable | American 77, a Boeing 757, departed Dulles International Airport in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C., bound for Los Angeles International Airport. The plane pushed back from its gate at 8:09 p.m. and got off the ground at 8:20 p.m., 10 minutes after its scheduled departure. On board were Captain Charles F. Burlingame, First Officer David Charlebois, four flight attendants, and 58 passengers, including the five terrorists. Moqed and al-Mihdhar sat in 12A and 12B in coach; Hani Hanjour sat in 1B in first class, and Nawaf and Salim al-Hazmi sat in 5E and 5F, also in the first-class cabin. At 8:46 a.m., the plane reached its cruising altitude of 35,000 feet. At 8:51, the plane sent its last routine radio transmission. The hijacking began soon after.1 | |
