Marine Commando Force

The Marine Commando Force (MCF) is a special forces unit that was created by the Indian Navy in 1987. Its primary function is to conduct reconnaissance, raids, and counterterrrorism operations in maritime environments. American and British special forces assisted in its initial training, which now consists of a two-year course for new recruits. The training regiment includes: weapons, operational reconaissance, airborne, and diving courses.

The structure and size of the MCF is classified, however, speculation suggests that the force is comprised of approximately 1,500-2,000 personnel.

The MCF first saw action in 1988 in Sri Lanka against the LTTE (Liberation of Tamil Tigers Eelan). In recent years, it has maintained a significant presence in Kashmir as a part of India's counterterrorist efforts.
