54th Group Army
The 54th Group Army was originally activated as the 54th Corps in 1949 under the Fourth Field Army. It was comprised of the 160th, 161st and 162nd Divisions. The unit took part in the Civil War. The unit was deactivated in 1950 and its main elements became a public security division in Kiangsi. The 161st Division was reassigned to the 48th Corps.
In March 1951 the 54th Corps was reactivated and was comprised of elements of the 44th and 45th Corps. The 54th was deployed to Korea in the Summer of 1951 as part of the second wave of Chinese forces to assist in operations against UN forces, and upon its return to China was stationed in Szechwan.
In 1962 the 54th Corps was redeployed to the Tibetan Military Region to support operations against India.
