The Iolkos 95 multinational naval exercise begans 05 November 1995 south of Skyros and continued through the Cyclades and the Myrtoo gulf. Vessels from Romania, the United States, Italy and Greece participated in the exercise as part of the "Partnership for Peace" initiative. Specifically, the Greek navy vessels involved in the exercise include the frigates Epirus and Lemnos, two torpedo patrol boats, a submarine as well as a tanker. Each of the other forces will participate with a frigate. The purpose of the exercise is joint training for military forces in peacekeeping missions as well as search and rescue missions.
