The Greek armed forces' annual tactical large-scale map exercise code-named "Alexandros 2002" was held February 8-12. The purpose of the exercise is to train the armed forces and security forces on handling crisis situations and in the coordination of operations. The General Staffs of the Army, Navy and Air Force, formations of the three branches of the Armed Forces, and political agencies took part in the exercise, which is designed to evaluate crisis-handling and train the armed and security forces and political agency staffs in carrying out joint coordinated operations. The exercise was under the command of National Defense General Staff Chief General Manoussos Paragioudakis, and took place in conjunction with the Olympos 2002 map exercise conducted by the Cyprus National Guard General Staff.
